Hello, I'm Karen Durkin, founder of Phoenix Therapy & Learning. I'm a clinical supervisor providing both face-to-face and online supervision, a therapeutic practitioner, SandStory therapist, trainer, and international author. My passion is creating safe, creative and reflective spaces where people feel understood, supported and inspired to grow. Whether I'm working with therapists in supervision or supporting adults and teenagers therapeutically, I believe meaningful change happens through curiosity, connection and authentic relationships.
Creativity has always been at the heart of my work. I believe that symbolism, metaphor and imagination often help us express what words alone cannot. Alongside talking, I use creative approaches and SandStory to help people explore experiences, recognise patterns and discover new perspectives. My book, Creative Supervision: 50 Creative Activities for Reflective Practice, grew from this belief and my desire to help supervisors bring reflection alive through practical, accessible activities.

Away from my professional life, I'm very much a free spirit and a nature lover. You'll often find me creating pottery in my home workshop, walking through the countryside with my Bernese Mountain Dog, Logan—who many would agree is a wonderful therapist in his own right—or setting off on adventures around the UK in our campervan with my husband. Nature, creativity and quiet moments of reflection keep me grounded and continually inspire the way I work with others.
Whatever has brought you here, my hope is that you'll find a warm, welcoming space where you feel heard, valued and encouraged to explore your own journey. Whether you're seeking supervision, therapeutic support, SandStory, or creative resources to enrich your practice, I'd be delighted to walk beside you.
International author of Creative Supervision: 50 Creative Activities for Reflective Practice.
I'd love to hear from you.
